8. The Aussies at Lords – After the 5-0 whitewash England suffered in Australia in 2006/07, regaining the Ashes was top of the priority list, but a lucky draw in the first test in Cardiff left England needing to improve. They went to Lords having not won an Ashes Test there since 1934, but the skipper made 161 in the first innings, batting the entire first day. England went on to win comfortably and Strauss made another couple of half centuries throughout the series to regain the urn.
