6. The Career Saver – Strauss went through the inevitable career decline having suffered a bad loss of form and he was dropped from both the ODI and the Test teams. He missed the series in Sri Lanka but returned in New Zealand in 2006, with his place firmly on the line. Having failed in the first two tests batting at number three, Strauss got a duck in the first innings of the final test. However, he saved his best till last and made a career-defining 177, his highest test score, to save his England place.
